« on: July 20, 2005, 12:33:58 am »
what would be a good cam to run on a lt1 without using a stall converter or is this even possible? these are the specs on the cam im looking at:  Specs 217/225 @.050 485/505 with 1.5 rockers  and 517/539 with 1.6 rockers with 1 degree advance built in.... LSA  112. could i use this cam with mt stock stall spped or not?

That cam isn't much bigger than stock.  If you're going to go through the trouble of swapping cams, you might want to make it worth it.

You can use just about any cam that will work well with stock heads and a stock stall.  You wont be flashing into your powerband but it's not like you CAN'T have a cam with a higher base RPM range without having a stall.....you'll just see better results with a stall.

Might want to look into a Hotcam kit.  It's a great deal for the money considering you get 1.6 RR's and springs along with it.

I did have a stall when I had the Hotcam which helped my times but with the Hotcam, headers, catback, gears and stall I was running 13.2's on street tires.

It really depends on how much money you have.  You can get a decent converter for $500 or less and I don't remember offhand how much the Hotcam kit is but it's less than $500.......I bought mine barely used for $200.

i know the hot cam kit is $500.00 from summit with the rockers springs etc.. i was told i could get a v-6 converter for about $200 but i was looking on ebay and found some for cheaper with more stall. the hot cam itself is only $200 or something close to that and im sure i could get rockers anf springs off ebay for cheap. your car wasnt geared? i could handle that time slip thats kind of where im looking to get. is the hot cam really all that great though? ive heard both.

I think that cam would be a significant improvement overstock, and it wouldn't be to bad with the stock stall. Sure you could go wilder, but it all depends how tame you want it. I think that's a fair cam for a daily driver, that you could still go on leasure cruises. IMO
