what is your MPG??
« on: July 26, 2005, 11:32:49 pm »
OK, so lately, I swear my MPG is different then before. I am just curious, does it really affect your mpg if you have your AC cranked......because anytime I drive the Z, I have the AC CRANKED! and usually I get about 17/18mpg around town(which was before I was driving around in 100 degree weather and leaving the AC on everywhere I go), and lately it has been 12/13mpg.....KEEP IN MIND, I have never gone through a tank without having some WOT runs now and then, so basically Im getting 13mpg having the AC Cranked, and having 10-20 WOT runs to 60mph or more on a tank....does this sound about right?? Also, in the mornings, or what not, I will let my car run for 7mins or so, or when Im walking out or a store or something I will start the car 5 mins before I get to it, just so it's nice and cool when I get in. I mean I do have a stall converter as well, so that has got to deduct a few mpg. But like I said, I WAS getting 17/18mpg around town. I am not sure what I get on the freeway because my wife and I mostly just drive around town, stop and go, grocery getter type driving.

I am very curious what you guys are getting especially with this 100 degree stuff going on. Aaron (Sad) what are you getting around town???

yeah gas milage goes down with the ac on. I haven't checked mine since I put the cam in! LOL! All I know is my car dosn't like the heat at all. If I get on it in the day when it's hot I get detonation! My car stays in the garage until it cools off later in the evening!

I just checked mine, and trying to be conservative, I get 18 mpg mix of city and highway.  I think I need to try harder  :)

I think what is killing you is letting it idle for a while (assuming you didn't do that before).  I know my car goes through gas like crazy when starting and idling at the track.   Other then start up and idle and WOT, I think it is pretty OK on gas (for what it is).

Try not letting it sit and idle for a tank and see what that does for ya.

Holy cow! You guys are getting the same mileage that my jeep gets.... :o I know this doesnt help much, but before I torn my T/A apart I was getting something like 24 in the city and almost 30 on the freeway.... of course 2.73's might have something to do with it too.... :haha:

well, I think letting the car idle for awhile has a big chunk to do with it. also like I said, I have never used my AC this much, last summer I would just leave the tops off all day and that was good enough for me....but ya.....this weather is crazy this year we had liked 5 days straight over 100 degrees.....so my AC is cranked non stop...plus like I said, the AC cranked while idleing is probably not so good either.. I think once it cools down I will see what I get with the AC turned off and try not to let my car idle so much!!!!!!

I guess I can't complain...when my wife and I went on our honeymoon to Oregon, we had an '05 Explorer...damn that thing!!!!! ON a whole TANK of gas we ran just FREEWAY speed and never had anything over 15mpg!!!!!! to fill it up was like $48!!

I get about 13 in town with my vette.  26 or so on the highway, it's a 6 speed though.

That's all you get with the vette?

the C5 got ~23 average on a tank, but with the climate control on it would dip down to ~20 on average for a tank. (50/50 city/highway)
With the in-dash mpg gauge, it was normal to see ~4-8mpg drop for instant MPG. (for at least part throttle, near cruise)
That made me rethink when I really needed A/C.

That much of an instant drop!  :o

Maybe I'd better roll the windows down more.  You too Landon.

No, I made it up it some grand scheme to confuse Landon, lol.

That's all I get.  I can keep it at about 17 around town if I really try, and am careful with the AC.  Just driving like I do, with the AC on when I want it on I get about 12.5-13.

Yah, it's always better around town to just roll your windows down if you can stand the heat. Once you hit 55 however, the wind drag from having the windows down actually starts using more gas than the AC would, at least according to the studies I've seen.

well this past tank of gas I tried my best to keep the AC off. and already I got 17 almost 18mpg MIXED highway/around town but still I am thinking atleast half the tank was in stop and go traffic. Im not too pissed I mean, I know for a fact if I had a full tank on the highway I could get 300miles on a tank.....not bad.

Well I've had the 93 Z28 for about a week so far and the average I'm getting is 22 MPG. This includes the jumping on it and the city and the freeway. That's great for a completely stock car with a M6 and 3:23 in the rear. I think some better tires and a few economical mods would help a couple MPG's. Like a K&N air filter and a better intake elbow and free flowing exhaust system on it and a MSD6AL box with a MSD coil.
