Got Clutch?
« on: August 22, 2005, 10:12:46 am »
Since this is my first 6 speed F-body, how do I know when my clutch needs replacing?  I know it's only engaging when the clutch pedal is almost all the way out.  And yesterday while I was driving I shifted into third and it just had this low grinding sound so I didn't dare let the clutch out, shifting into 4th it did the same thing, 5th was the only gear that didn't do that.  I pulled over, and after that everything worked fine.  What the dealio?

What are some good clutches to get?  And how much is it going to cost to get it replaced, if necessary?  70,000 miles on the car, I don't know if the clutch was ever replaced before.

usually a clutch will last 60,000 - 80,000 miles if it's used "right"  he he he.  It sounds like it will need to be replaced you're probably almost to the rivets one the clutch and the pressure plate is worn too.  That's why it take so much pedal travel and the lack of material on the clutch disk itself.  Call Napa if you want a stock replacement clutch, They are very good clutches.  Autozone and checker clutches are cheap chinese clutches and cause the car to vibrate real bad.  I know someone who'll do it for a cheap price (200) most likely.
