I need some help
« on: November 22, 2009, 08:00:18 pm »
So every since I put some new TOYO's on my car it feels "sloppy" the only way I can describe it is if im going down the freeway and jerk the wheel left and right it almost feels like the frame slides across the axle! It just started with these tires, So Im wondering what is going to help me more SFC, or Swaybars? Also what is the stock swaybars on our cars? I got a 01 SS with LCA's, Lowered, panhard bar and strut bar. I really need to do something about this sloppyness!! Im thinking that I may need new shocks but not sure...

What are the tires you got? Tires make a huge difference in how the car handles.

Toyo's generally are pretty good but like anything, you could have gotten a bad batch.

For handling, Poly bushings, subframe connectors, Strut Tower brace, Wonderbar.  After this...well you can finish off the rear suspension upgrades and you said it's lowered, so you've got new springs.  That's really it.

Check out: www.spohn.net

They've got damn near everything  you'd want for an Fbody.

The wonder bar mounts just on top of the front sway bar, connects the steering gearbox  frame area to the frame area on the passenger side.  One of the big mods for 3rd gens because the steering boxes like to crack from stresses in turning.  Come to think of it, not sure if they have one for the 4th gens, but i'll check.

EDIT ----

Just looked at some of my favorite shopping sites and I don't see one for a 4th gen, but here is the link to the one for a third gen.

3rd gens = have wonder bar
4th gens = don't have wonder bar

I'm SURE ! you need new shocks .. and SFC > bigger sway bars ..

Thanks Dave Sam Strano got in touch with me on the LS1 board and has been helpin me pick out sway bars. I just do not like the sloppy feel to the car one bit going 75 down the freeway. So do you think I should start with shocks, then swaybars?

Did you change physical size of the tires (ie more sidewall)?  If you went to a taller tire, that would give you the sloppy feeling too.  Also double check your air pressure.  Low air pressure will give you a sloppy feeling to.  You probably already know this stuff, but it doesn't hurt to mention it.

It is usually the simple things that get overlooked that cause the problems

I stayed with the same size tire 275/40/17. I figured that they put the correct pressure in the tires, But ill check it out tomorrow. Still think im going to get some strano sway bars just to tighten things up. Do they really help out with handleing?

I agree with Hoppy - talk to Strano.  I have his swaybars and springs, Konis, and UMI SFCs and couldnt be happier with the way the car turns.
