New camaro
« on: February 14, 2010, 06:39:10 pm »
Hey guys my name is nick and I own a 81 camaro but I can't seem to stop having Tranny problems and so I'm thinking about selling and getting a 4th gen. So I have wome questions about them. What is the best one stock and how easy will it be to get around 350HP to the wheels?

Whats your budget?  LS1 (98-02) will be the easiest platform to build off of.  I'm a sucker for LT1s though (93-97), they take more work to extract power from since they dont start as high up the pole, but I still like em :)

With long tubes, heads, cam, intake and LT1 will make well over 350 to the wheels.  With a cam, headers, intake, an LS1 will make well over 350 to the wheels.  So its your choice :)

For 4-5 grand for a car, you'll be forced into a decent LT1, or a beat up LS1.  Soo you'll just have to shop around and see what you can find.

I just barely installed a vortech supercharger, and I have longtubes, otherwise the motor is basically stock.... Im only running about 5 lbs of boost right now and would "guess" (havent dyno'd yet), that I'm about 340-350 HP at the wheels right now.  Hopefully I can squeeze more out of it once I figure out how to tune it, and up the boost to 8-9#s or so.

For 4 to 5 grand, you will be in for the 93-97 (LT1), then add more $$$ for the mods.  You can get into a 98-99 (LS1) for that price, but they will most likely be high mileage and beat to death.

Welcome!

I love my LS1 (actually - not right now because I am struggling with my winter mods), but your budget does put you into LT1 territory.  You might want to keep your eyes peeled for a good deal on an LS1 though.

The SS looks like it could kick your ass, the WS6 looks like it's coming over to do it!
