Pulled my best time
« on: July 05, 2005, 01:48:20 pm »
To start off this section, I pulled my best time to date on my Bandit.  Monday in the middle of the heat I ran a 11.20 @ 118.93 mph, then a 11.28 @ 118.84 mph, then 11.23 @ 119.86 mph.  The 11.23 pass would have been better but I bobbled the 2-3 shift.  The 60ft time of the 11.23 was my best at 1.79

Don't you mostly street ride that bike?  A slick and a wheelie bar is kinda extreme for a DD bike don't ya think?

Yes this is my commuter.  We have a lot of bike programs up here geared around street legal (no bars or slicks).  We have a heads up class with guys running high 8's @ 150+ and they are 100% street legal.  Alex - that is actually a quick 60ft and the correct mph for that ET on a motorcycle.  My wheelbase is only 57 inches.

Yeah, it would be really hard to get a faster 60' than that without wheelie bars.  Launching a bike is the trickiest thing I've ever done.  You have to find the perfect RPM and the perfect amount of clutch slippage, because if you launch too low you bog BAD and if you launch too high or let the clutch out too fast, you're in the air.

Awesome time dude :)  You'll have to trailer that thing to RMR and race me one of these days.  It sounds like it's pretty fast :)

Actually JP we have guys here pulling 1.4x 60 ft times on street legal tire (Shinko), no wheelie bars, stretched to 63-64 inches and lowered.

Yeah, but to me that's not a street bike.  I'd rather keep a short wheelbase and decent ride height and be able to blast a canyon than only go fast in a straight line.  If you want a fast drag-only bike, buy a hayabusa :p

JP - most of them are busas

Dave - nothing impressive there.  That is how a lot of guys launch here.  It depends on what kind of clutch and others parts you have.  The biggest being that that guy has a cable clutch and can slip it alot.  Try doing that with a hydraulic clutch.  Their is ver little slipping in a hydraulic clutch, usually it is full engage or not.  Just FYI

Yeah, launching with a cable clutch pretty much comes down to how long you want your clutch to last. hehe.  My friend works at the Honda dealer and gets all his stuff at cost, so he's not afraid to launch from redline and slip it all the way through 1st gear.  It's so crazy to line up against him and hear him at 15000rpms all the way through 1st. hehe.
