New Military Orders...It's been a fun 3 years, but I'll be leaving
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:05:32 am »
I just received notification of my new orders.  It's hard to believe I've been here for almost 3 years already.  Too bad I was only able to get my car on the road for 2...count them 2, Club events.  Discraceful, absolutely discraceful.  Never the less, I am to report to Lakenheath Royal Air Force Base, England by Feb 28, 2011.  Talk about cool!! Not sure what I'll do with the car while I'm gone but I'll figure something out.

I found a ''Pontiac Owners Club of England''.  They do shows and meets all year round every month.

Thanks, I appreciate that.  I am also contemplating just selling it and getting another when I get back.
I would love to take it with me however, I dont know if I can get it to pass their safety check.  My e-brake hs never worked and my brakes are harder to engage at idle thanks to the lower vacuum of my larger cam.

Just park it for 4 yrs I would say.   Do some research on the best way to set it up for long term storage.

I would either keep the battery on a battery tender, or just undo the negative cable. Also, leave a 1/4 tank of gas in it, and use some stabilizer. I would also jack it up and either leave it, or take the tires off so they don't go flat with a flat spot. But I agree with the above, do some research on this lenght of time.

well, I've found a few places for storage but for indoor and climate controlled I am looking at near $100 a month.  I dont know if I can justify what will be more than $4000 to let he car sit for 4 years with no garuantee that it will even fire up when I get back.

Sorry that you have to sell it.
I have an 84 Recaro, looks alot like yours on the outside but mine is not running well yet
Also I work on the base too, as a civilian, & 9 years in the Air Force Reserves

Thanks.  We are really looking forward to it!

I dont' want to sell it, but it's the "thing to do" if I can.  The money would be a great help in our move.  However, I have to plan for the eventuality that it won't sell, so I need to resolve the issues it's got before we go so it can and will be a reliable daily driver.  I work over in CMS.  Look up "osterholt" in the global, I'm the only one in the AF. :)  So what's up with your car?  Maybe we can compare notes. lol

I'm in 265, A-10's
I've had my 84 Recaro for about 3 years now, I've been gathering parts to get it back to original plus some performance upgrades.
I'm still looking to get a Quadra Jet Carb. someone put a Holley on it when I got it. I'll post some pic's soon.
Thx
