Stumbling
« on: September 04, 2005, 10:40:57 pm »
alright, a while ago i pulled my headers to wrap them, when i put them back on and fired them up the car stumbled at idle and when you get on it, I checked the firing order and its good, i pulled the plugs and re gapped them cleaned them up and made sure all wires were on tight, I had the blaster coil off so i could mount it closer to the distibutr and more out of the way, so my question is what could be causeing the stumbling? could my timing be off? thanks for the help

did you inspect the plugs really good, on the ceramic?  Maybe when you played with the headers you bumped one and put a little crack in it, their pretty hard to see sometimes, but can still cause arching.  Do you see lightning anywhere when dark?

K checked the plugs they look good, and one thing i failed to mention was I hear a hissing sound. maybe a vaccum leak? it sounds like its coming from inside the TB but i didn't know what caused it. could a vaccum leak cause this? and where could the vaccum leak be? cause it sounds like the TB is gasping for air.  ???

If you hear a hissing you definitely have a vacuum leak somewhere. Sometimes installing things cause other things to get disconnected or torn. It could be 10 different things at least. Just start tracing things from one point to another.

I know i've ran into throttle body leaks.  Good Trick I do is I use propane, get a bottle of propane with a torch tip, and blow some propane in the suspected area, the vacuum leak will suck in the propane and your cars idle will go up.  When it goes up, there;s your leak.

I've done that or you can use a can of carb cleaner. Does the same thing. Spray a little by the vacuum leak and your idle will go up.
