Troubleshooting help
« on: November 07, 2011, 06:41:43 pm »
:Unexpected: Ok, had this problem for a while now. I have a 2000 TA. Stock LS1, flashing SES light. I threw a code reader on it, it reads P304 (random misfire on cylinder 4). So I changed the spark plugs, wires, and number 4 coil. I can smell it running rich. It idles sometimes, dies most of the time. Runs like a champ at wide open throttle.

New Plugs, Wires, Coil, O2 Sensors.
Tested Spark, and injector.
Could not hear any kind of unusual noises while it was running (other than the rough idle)

Got to check the compression, so hopefully that tells me something. Any other ideas?

I could have had a WS6, but the fast agressive styling scared the hell out of me. I went with the SS because it was so cute!

While you're there, you may want to pull a valve cover and check for a broken valve spring.

You also may have a bad injector that is stuck open.  That would explain the "rich" smell and can cause idle problems.  Also could be fouling the plug in the process adding to the idle issue.
