I think 36k is too high too. I've seen newer Z06's for cheaper with about the same mileage. I think your figure of 27k is a little more realistic. Check out the blue book on it.

You just have to understand vette owners, and the fact that the vette market is just different than other cars. A usual vette owner thinks that their vette is "worth" basically what they paid for it, some even think they are worth more as time goes on. I see guys with '86 vettes with 30k miles asking $26k. Might be worth that to a collector with more money than brains, but only time will tell. Most vette people just rub them with a diaper, and count the coats of zaino on it. Honestly, 70% of newer vettes are just garage queens, getting less than 2k a year. This one sounds like one of those cars. A few things to consider on this actual car, pre '02 vettes are common to have the seat rails sliding about, ~1/4", but it costs $400 for a new rail from GM. Also check the dual zone climate controlhed unit if it's equipped, they go dim quite often & are ~$350 from GM. I would check the fenders to see if its been jacked up with pucks as needed or not, cracked fenders happen far to often on C5's. Other important features for value, both tops? Z51?. I would far more debate on the "intake/exhaust", that could be ~$300 @ MSRP (K&N/walmart mufflers) or ~$1900MSRP (vararam/corsa titianum). I would take that into potentail "valiue". The M6 cost ~$1k originally, and only ~20% of non-z06 C5's have manuals. Expect to pay at least the $1k difference still). As MY (millenium yellow) is a premium color ($500 new), expect to pay at least that still. MY is only on ~10% of 2000's. Finding a MY/M6 can be difficult, ESPECIALLY for cheap. As my old man put it, it's only "worth" what people will actually PAY for it. There are some people that have been looking for this car for months/years for a reasonable deal. I really think it will probably SELL for 30k, given a full summer and national exposure. Vette people are usually willing to pay quite a bit for low miles, relatively speaking.  My opinion, if this is the setup you want, let him know your interested. As the summer progresses, he'll realize that you're serious and you'll probably be able to work something out thats reasonable for both of you.

well update...... test drove the car today. has "530" hp and "15" grand in mods he called a race kit........ right  asked them to produce some proof of what works was done..... had nothing. that kind of killed the deal for me as of now till they can get me some paperwork, i dont know who or what had been in the motor. didnt feel like "530" hp on the test drive, it was faster my camaro but not 200 hp faster. also has a tune problems wont idle worth, kept dieing on me at stop lights! sales man says its from the "racing cams", that should tell you how much they know about the car. all that i can tell that is done is cam, headers which have a leak ,intake, and borla exhaust hardly 15grand but yeah. but its LOADED and clean! both tops, clean black leather, hud, dual zone ac,sport seats, memory package, teloscoping wheels, new tires. im going to try and get some paper work on the "race kit" and talk them down a bit and see how its goes from there.

See if they'll put their money where their mouth is. Tell them that IF it puts down 530hp on the dyno that you'll buy it. BUT for every 10hp less they are going to have to knock off $1k. @ 530hp that think should be basically scary-fast. Buying a car like this from a dealer is always going to give you headaches. Even sadder part is that the car might book for 27k, but the dealership probably gave him ~23k, then hit him for mods taking off another 3k. If it's got a big cam, and no tune it's not uncommon for it to stubble and die.
