406 rubbing probs
« on: April 23, 2006, 05:37:26 pm »
Ok so today I pulled the heads off the 406 and the cylinders look perfect so I pulled the pan hoping to see something binding it up. Nothing here's the prob I can get the motor to turn completly around but it hits one spot that gets really tough like it rubbing somewhere. it does it in the exact same place everytime. Once it gets past that point it's fine. so does anyone have any ideas as to where it could be rubbing

you have the heads off and it still does that? Pull the cam out and look at it. If it still does it then you should proly tear down the bottem end. It could be anything binding up.

It could also be a cam being bent or it could also be a cam sprocket on crooked. It could also be a piston and rod being put in backwards.

How do I tell if the cam sprocket isn't on all the way cause I put that on myself.

It will look lop sided.  spin the motor till it stops.  while doing so check the cam sprocket from atop and see if you see a wobble on the sprocket.
